Robocars

There are lots of bad drivers out there, but could a car drive itself better than a person? On November 3, 2007, 20 vehicles navigated their way through a mock city. Merging at traffic circles. Passing disabled vehicles. Avoiding cinder blocks. But there was just one catch: all of the vehicles were unmanned. Robocars presents this groundbreaking competition between robotic cars that were outfitted with GPS, lasers, video cameras and laptops, but no human drivers. There’s a lot at stake, because some of the greatest minds—and deepest pockets—of the robotic world are watching closely to see which teams rise to the challenge.
